Reading's easy. Making sense of what you read's a bit harder!
But don't panic. These Seven Simple Steps should make it easier.

1. Read title and any subtitles carefully
- these tell you why the text was written.

2. Read the introduction
- this gives you the context of the text.

3. Read the last paragraph
- this often outlines the main conclusion

4. Skim read the first line only of each paragraph
- this often gives you the best overview.

5. Highlight key words and phrases.
Look up any words you're not sure of.
Follow Seven Simple Steps!

6. Go back to the start
As you re-read make key notes and highlight any more key points you notice.Always remember - never get stuck in detail. Simply mark any point you find difficult. You can always return to it after you've read the whole text twice. By then you should understand the whole context better and it should make more sense!

7. Use your key notes to help you summarise the text.
Sometimes it helps to summarise under the 6 question headings
- who, what, where, when, why and how.
