Wondering how to impress your colleagues, friends - and maybe even teachers?

One way of showing off your English is to slip a few idiomatic phrases into your smalltalk. You might recognise this American comedian - Henry Winkler, from "Happy Days", whose catch phrase was "Aeyyyyyy, cool man!"

The wider your range of vocabulary, the cooler your smalltalk too. Try at least one task a week!

1. Learn a new word "Bizz Word" every day!

2. Whenever you discover a new word write it on a post-it and stick it to on your PC or bedside table! Remove it only once you've learnt it! Then learn a synonym for this word!

3. Get reading! View the headlines of these Daily Newspapers.

4. Don't stop reading! Check out the latest Book Tips for a guaranteed good read!

Don't be shy - show off your English today!

5. Find a pen pal who you can exchange emails with in English! Leave a message and see who replies!

6. Speak with colour! Learn idioms

7. Practise reading a short text out loud. Read it again, now stressing key words by changing your voice. Doesn't it sound so much more interesting?!

8. Pick a short podcast. Download free BBC pods . Summarise the main points in English! Do the same next time you listen to or watch the news in whatever language!

So enjoy your smalltalk. But don't try too hard to be cool. That's very uncool! Unless of course you're just impersonating Henry Winkler!
